Inherent says Faraday beat larger AI models

Edward Hughes, its cofounder and chief scientist, said paper replication was a normal exercise for scientists and part of a larger aim to build an AI scientist agent. He said the company also wanted the system to decide which experiments were worth running and how to design them.
Inherent said it compared Faraday with Anthropic's Claude Opus 4.8 and OpenAI's GPT-5.5. It said Faraday ran on Qwen 3.6 with 27 billion parameters, and that the company used OpenAI's GPT-5.5 Codex for coding work rather than building its own tool.
Hughes said the startup wanted agents that would investigate questions and return results, not merely mirror a user's view. He also said the company planned to increase headcount to about 20 to 25 by the end of the year, with its dozen employees already working from King's Cross.
