OpenAI rolls out GPT-6 Astra to ChatGPT
OpenAI said its GPT-6 Astra model began rolling out to selected organisations before wider access across ChatGPT, Codex, its API and AWS, alongside claims about benchmark and cybersecurity performance.
- OpenAI said GPT-6 Astra was rolling out first to a limited set of organisations and would then reach ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users, the OpenAI API and AWS.
- The company said GPT-6 Astra would upgrade ChatGPT and Codex.
- OpenAI described the model as its most intelligent and aligned release and said it was state-of-the-art on computer use, browsing, software engineering, cybersecurity, science and professional work.
- OpenAI said Codex would use the model to keep notes across context windows and to search earlier context windows, and that the feature would become the default in coming weeks.
OpenAI said GPT-6 Astra was its new model for ChatGPT and Codex. The article said that, a day later, it was rolling out to Business and Pro customers on $100/month and $200/month plans before Plus customers on $20/month plans.
OpenAI said the model would first reach a limited set of organisations and then become available to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users, as well as through the OpenAI API and AWS. The company said enterprise administrators could switch it on for their workspace and that access would be off by default at launch.
In its announcement, OpenAI said GPT-6 Astra was its latest model and claimed it led on computer use, browsing, software engineering, cybersecurity, science and professional work. The company also said it scored 98% on FrontierMath Tier 4, 99.9% on ARC-AGI-3 and 100% on ExploitBench.
OpenAI said the model added a new way for Codex to keep notes when the context window filled. It said earlier context windows would remain searchable, and that the feature would be experimental at first before becoming the default in the following weeks.

How the source tells it
The piece read like a launch story built around OpenAI’s own marketing claims and benchmark language, with little distance between announcement copy and reporting.
- vendor boosterism the company’s own superlatives and benchmark claims were repeated as the main news value
- urgency the rollout was framed as happening immediately and widening over the following days
