Microsoft releases Windows 11 KB5124010 preview update

Microsoft released KB5124010 for Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2 as a September 2026 preview update. It said the package was meant for testing quality changes and new features before the next Patch Tuesday, and that it did not include security fixes.

Microsoft said the update added support for Emoji 17.0, an Open apps maximized accessibility setting, and a recovery remote management plug-in for WinRE. It also said it corrected Bluetooth radio behaviour, Bluetooth audio crashes with error code 0x139, and issues affecting microphone support and LE Audio devices.

After installing the update, users could remap the Copilot key to act as Right Ctrl or the Context Menu key. Microsoft also said the release added slideshow wallpapers for multiple desktops, extra precision touchpad gestures and camera roll backup through OneDrive.

Microsoft said it fixed a File History backup failure that followed the September 2026 security updates and removed PC-to-PC Migration. It advised using Windows Backup for moving to a new PC and said KB5124010 was the last preview update for Windows 11 24H2, which reaches end of support in October 2026.
