Anthropic releases Mods for Claude Code

Anthropic added Mods to Claude Code, a plugin system that lets developers change the tool’s interface and behaviour, while warning that the code runs with user permissions and is not sandboxed.

THE-DECODER

Anthropic released Mods for Claude Code, a plugin-based system that ran inside the tool. It let developers alter how Claude Code looked and worked.

The company said Mods were JavaScript or TypeScript functions that responded to events including tool calls, user prompts and interface rendering. Anthropic also said some built-in features, including /diff, were already implemented as Mods.

Anthropic said sample Mods were available on GitHub and warned that they ran with the user's permissions and were not sandboxed. It said organisations could control which Mods were allowed to load.

The first official Mod plugin was called You Should Know. Anthropic said it launched a separate agent that monitored Claude's output and sent a heads-up when it found information users might have missed.
