Meta adds Your Algorithm to Facebook

Meta said Facebook users would be able to steer the topics shown in their feed and Reels, as the company extended a feature first used on Instagram and linked it to wider LLM use.

The Verge

Meta said Facebook was getting Your Algorithm, a feature that let people choose topics they wanted to see in their feed and in Facebook Reels. It said users could reach the controls from the three-dot menu on posts, and that the interested and not interested options might also appear beneath some posts.

The company said it could ask follow-up questions for more detail about what people liked or disliked. It said recommendations would change immediately after users updated their choices, and that the system would adapt within the same session.

Meta said Your Algorithm had already launched on Instagram earlier this year. It also said it had introduced a similar Dear Algo feature on Threads.

The company said the Facebook change was part of a wider set of AI-powered tools for customising what people saw on the service. It also said it was using LLMs more in ranking systems and described them as letting users speak to the algorithm in natural language.

How the source tells it

The article was a straightforward product update, but it repeated Meta’s promotional language about AI-driven personalisation.

  • vendor boosterism it largely repeated Meta’s own account of the feature’s benefits and operation
  • hype the AI framing and claims of real-time responsiveness cast the change as more capable than independently shown
