Anthropic donates Agent Skills to AAIF
Anthropic said it had transferred Agent Skills, the standard for agent workflows, to the Agentic AI Foundation, while giving adoption figures, maintainer names and the assets included in the handover.
- Anthropic said it was donating Agent Skills to the Agentic AI Foundation.
- The company said more than 70 agent platforms had integrated Agent Skills since December 2025.
- Anthropic said around 1 million skills had been published and nearly 280 million installed.
- It said the AAIF sat under the Linux Foundation and had been co-founded last year with Block and OpenAI.
Anthropic said it was transferring Agent Skills, which it described as an open standard for giving AI agents specialised knowledge and workflows, to the Agentic AI Foundation. It said the transfer included the Agent Skills name and logo, the GitHub organisation and the agentskills.io domain.
The company said more than 70 agent platforms had integrated the standard since it published it in December 2025. It listed ChatGPT, Cursor, GitHub Copilot and VS Code among those integrations.
Anthropic said it had developed skills while working on Claude Code, which it said handled general knowledge work but often lacked the procedural knowledge needed for business tasks. It said developers later published thousands of skills on GitHub and wrote loaders for Codex, Cursor and OpenCode.
Anthropic said about 1 million skills had been published and nearly 280 million installed. It said the AAIF, under the Linux Foundation and co-founded last year with Block and OpenAI, would provide the home for the standard, with David Soria Parra and Mahesh Murag as lead maintainers.
The company said engineers from Anthropic, Google, OpenAI and other firms would maintain the project as individuals. It said the next roadmap would cover versioned releases, a proposal process and security guidance.
