Replit says OpenAI is now its default AI partner

Replit CEO Amjad Masad said the company was no longer working with Anthropic, then said customers could still use Anthropic models while OpenAI became the default for Replit Agent.

TechCrunch

Amjad Masad said at TechCrunch Disrupt that Replit was no longer working with Anthropic. He said the decision reflected cost, partnership terms and performance, and said OpenAI’s ChatGPT had become the default on the platform.

Masad later told TechCrunch that customers could still choose Anthropic’s Claude or other supported models. He said OpenAI was now Replit’s preferred partner for Replit Agent.

The article said the shift could reduce Replit’s spending with Anthropic because most customers use the default option rather than changing models themselves. It also said Replit had previously relied on Anthropic’s Claude models to run the platform.

People familiar with the partnership disputed Masad’s onstage remarks and said the Anthropic partnership was still in place. The article said Replit’s recent website, blog and social posts still referred to Anthropic models, including references in late September.
