Anthropic files S-1 for initial public offering

Anthropic filed an S-1 with the Securities and Exchange Commission, disclosing rapid revenue growth, heavy losses and large infrastructure spending as it prepared a proposed public listing.

CBS News

Anthropic filed its IPO paperwork with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday. The filing covered the company and its Claude AI platform, and moved it closer to a public listing.

The S-1 said revenue in the first half of 2026 was $16.3 billion, up from $1.2 billion in the same period in 2025. It also said net loss was $80.7 billion, and that revenue growth was expected to slow over time.

Anthropic said it spent $8.9 billion on chips and other infrastructure in the first half of the year, against $2.3 billion a year earlier. The company said its shares would trade under the symbol ANT, and the article said reports put the possible size of the offering at as much as $100 billion.

Anthropic's founders, including chief executive Dario Amodei, also told prospective investors to think of the stock as more than a normal purchase. The article said market analysts expected a listing as early as November, while Nigel Green of deVere Group and Lightshed analysts described the flotation as a test of the wider AI market and a source of major downside risk.

How the source tells it

The article mixed promotional IPO language with speculative market framing and a late turn to existential AI alarm.

  • hype and boosterism the company and its founders framed the listing as a historic and transformative moment
  • market speculation it projected valuations, capital raised and investor reactions as near-term outcomes
  • alarm it invoked rogue AI, pandemics, cyberattacks and extinction scenarios
