Apple adds AI assistant to productivity apps

Apple said a beta assistant built on Apple and OpenAI models would draft, edit and organise work across Keynote, Pages and Numbers, with third-party agent support on newer Macs.

The Verge

Apple said it was adding a beta AI assistant to Keynote, Pages and Numbers. The company said the assistant used models from Apple and OpenAI and would appear on devices compatible with Apple Intelligence.

In Keynote, Apple said the assistant could work from a document’s context to design, animate and refine slides. In Pages, it could draft, restructure and edit text, while in Numbers it could calculate, visualise and organise data, suggest chart types and build custom tables.

Apple also said Keynote, Pages and Numbers would support the Model Context Protocol on macOS 27 or later. That would allow third-party AI agents to connect to those apps.

The company said several other creative tools were being updated as well. Pixelmator Pro gained Generate Fill, Logic Pro for Mac and iPad gained an AI assistant and a redesigned Browser, and Final Cut Pro gained templates and a Content Hub, with Creator's Studio updates due free to existing subscribers in November.
