Oracle adds OpenAI tools and chip options
Oracle said it would add ChatGPT and Codex to its applications and widen Oracle Cloud Infrastructure access to Google TPUs, OpenAI's Jalapeño chip and Cerebras hardware.
- Oracle said on Tuesday that it had expanded its collaboration with OpenAI to bring ChatGPT and Codex into its applications.
- Mahesh Thiagarajan said the tools would help users build, deploy and manage applications, and said Oracle had seen GPT-6 Astra training at its Stargate campus in Abilene, Texas.
- Oracle said Google TPUs, OpenAI's Jalapeño chip and Cerebras hardware would run on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.
- The article said Cerebras would not disclose the size of its deal because it was in a quiet period, and it said Oracle shares rose nearly 5% while Cerebras stock rose about 8%.
- Oracle said Project Jupiter remained on schedule despite local pushback, a force majeure notice to Blue Owl Capital and a hearing set for Dec. 7 in Sunland Park.
Oracle said on Tuesday that it had broadened its collaboration with OpenAI and would add ChatGPT and Codex to its applications. The company said the move was intended to make databases more useful for customers.
Thiagarajan, Oracle's president of Cloud Infrastructure, told CNBC that the tools would let people build, deploy and manage applications. He also said Oracle's team had seen OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra model being trained at Oracle's Stargate campus in Abilene, Texas.
Oracle also said it would make different hardware available through Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, including Google's tensor processing units, OpenAI's Jalapeño chip and Cerebras hardware. Thiagarajan said this was the first time Google's custom chips would run on another hyperscaler's cloud, but said it did not mean Oracle was moving away from Nvidia GPUs.
Greg Brockman, OpenAI's president and co-founder, said in a press release that more businesses were choosing OpenAI as the company made it easier to use AI with existing tools and systems. The article said Cerebras would not give the deal's scale because it was in a quiet period.
The report said Cerebras stock rose about 8% and Oracle shares were up nearly 5% after the announcement. It also said Oracle's Project Jupiter in New Mexico had drawn local opposition, with a hearing scheduled for Dec. 7 in Sunland Park and Oracle maintaining that the project was on schedule.

How the source tells it
A business-news report that relied on company claims and market reaction, with a boosterish edge in the way it framed the partnerships and hardware access.
- vendor boosterism promotional executive quotes and broad claims about what the tools would let customers do
- validation framing the piece described earlier hardware deals as validation and reinforced the news with stock-price moves
